The Sanctuary

Each long-term dog represents a story of resilience and hope. The longer a dog’s stay, the deeper the relationship they develop with the staff and volunteers caring for them. The volunteers & staff know these dogs and they know they deserve their chance at a good life. Each dog has a place to call home, to feel loved, a place to lay their heads down and feel wanted. That place is called The Sanctuary.

About/History

S.A.F.E. would like the Hollister location to be a sanctuary where old or non-adoptable dogs can live out their lives in comfort. A “non-adoptable” dog typically refers to a dog that is either not available for adoption or is unlikely to be adopted due to health issues, behavioral problems, or legal restrictions. S.A.F.E. believes every dog deserves compassion and care regardless of their adoptability status.

Over the years, Hollister has undergone major changes,

to make the sanctuary a happy and loving place.

We are very proud of what Hollister has become. However, it comes with a hefty cost. It costs about $1,500 to house one dog for one year. This site exists to spread the word about our mission and to let you meet some of the sanctuary residents! These dogs, and all of S.A.F.E.’s rescued animals, are alive and well cared for as a result of the generosity of S.A.F.E.’s supporters. The dogs in Hollister have S.A.F.E. as their forever home, and our staff and volunteers as their family. We hope you are able donate to help us care for our sanctuary and the dogs there.
